The GWO Crane & Hoist Basic User programme at OEG Training provides learners with the knowledge and practical capability to operate cranes and hoists safely in wind turbine environments. This training covers equipment inspection, load handling, safe operating procedures, communication methods, hazard identification, and correct use of lifting accessories.

You will learn how to prepare lifting equipment, operate cranes and hoists in accordance with GWO standards, manage loads safely, and maintain effective communication during lifting operations. Through realistic, scenario‑based exercises, learners develop the confidence and competence to support lifting tasks safely and efficiently in both onshore and offshore wind settings.

The course is designed to enhance operational safety, reduce lifting‑related risks, and meet the latest Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards required by employers across the global wind sector.

At the end of the GWO Crane & Hoist Basic User programme, you will be able to confidently operate cranes and hoists safely and effectively within wind turbine environments. You will be able to prepare, inspect, and use lifting equipment in accordance with GWO‑approved lifting procedures, ensuring safe and controlled movement of loads during turbine installation and maintenance tasks. You will demonstrate the ability to identify lifting hazards, select appropriate lifting accessories, and maintain safe working distances while coordinating lifting operations. 

You will also be able to communicate clearly with colleagues using recognised lifting communication methods, support safe load handling, and contribute to a controlled and compliant lifting environment. Your competence will align with the latest GWO global safety standards required across the wind industry.
